Oversize Planters for Trees- Things You Need To Know

Industrial planters, garden planters and outdoor planters come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Oversize planters are extra large industrial or outdoor planters that are meant to be home for plants or trees that are expected to reach phenomenal proportions soon! Oversize planters are great when it comes to industrial planters considering company sites, college campuses, golf courses, large apartment complexes, industrial sites and locations and parks are all planned with a long term perspective. So it makes sense for the architects, planners and decorators to go in for oversize industrial planters considering these locations have the time required for the trees to actually attain gigantic sizes!

Planning the Planter Size – Why is Size so Important?

Planters these days come in a variety of sizes, and for definite reason. First, the size of the planter has tremendous effect on the look imparted to the location it’s set in. Any location remains beautiful only if the planters positioned there do not stand out distinctly and naturally blend in along with the surroundings. So it makes good sense to use small planters for indoor use, medium size planters near entrances, doorways and on porches and oversize and large planters in outdoor locations such as gardens, along pathways and walkways and golf courses.

The second and most important reason for planters coming in various sizes is of course, utility. Different plants, shrubs and trees grow to different known levels of height and overall size. So it is important to pick the right size of the planter depending on the type of plant that’s going to inhabit it, or what you’re going to end up with is a Jack-and-the-beanstalk sized monster plant in a teapot sized planter! The general rule for matching plants to planters is that “the plant should not grow to a height of more than twice that of the planter itself”. The rule goes on to stat e that “the planters’ height should not be more than one and half times the width of the planter”, which provides an alternative perspective for the amateur decorator.

What Makes Oversize Planters so Good?

Oversize planters are great when it comes to planting medium sized trees and large plants because they are sure to fill up and cover more space in time to come. Some plants have large roots that need to remain unconstrained for the plant to grow effectively. This means the volume of the planter needs to be far greater than usual, and so an oversize planter would obviously do the trick here.

One of the biggest advantages of oversize planters is that they aid in being natural “blockades” and “barriers” for visitors, and people in general on any site in general. Every site has spaces that need to be fended off from people and using oversize planters is a great way of doing it without provoking anyone’s sense of freedom. Golf courses, off limits, super expensive lawns and “no drive through” zones are easy to barricade when you have oversize planters around. Perhaps the biggest difficulty when it comes to oversize planters is their weight (which is the total weight of the soil, the plant/tree and the large planter itself), so moving them can be quite a task in itself!
